If you have never heard of the Galant, Mitsubishi’s mid-size sedan, it’s OK. Despite being a competent vehicle, it is not particularly outstanding, and Galant sales are relatively low compared to competitors such as Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
In order to stir up more interest, in 2009 the Galant received a restyling, including a new grille, hood, and taillights. These changes are so subtle and nothing striking, thus the new Galant does not look much different than its predecessor.
Inside, the 2009 Mitsubishi Galant provides a stylish, contemporary look. Unfortunately, Galant does suffer from the not-so-high quality materials that just look cheap when compared to the refined looks of its main competitors. Cabin size is quite roomy for five passengers, and the trunk, although a bit small, has a wide opening. Galant does not offer a folding backseat, but it has a pass-through to the 13.3-cubic-foot trunk.
The 2009 Galant is available in four trim levels: ES, Sport Edition, Sport V6 and Ralliart. The front-wheel-drive Galant models offer three engine choices: the ES and Sport Edition models sport a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine that provides 160 horsepower; the Sport V6 is equipped with a 3.8-liter V6 with 230 horsepower; the Ralliart features a 3.8-liter V6 with 258 horsepower. Fuel economy ranges from 20/27 MPG for the four-cylinder trims and 17/25 MPG for the Ralliart.
In summary, the Galant is a powerful and fun family sedan to drive, with smooth ride quality and ideal for daily commutes.
