Bold and daring, the Ford Flex is a stylish alternative to minivans and seven-passenger crossover SUVs.
The new Flex, which debuted in 2009, is an eye-catching crossover wagon that boasts enough room for seven full-size adults. With a boxy, vintage design that resembles a giant crossover between a first-generation Scion xB and a Mini Cooper, the Flex stands out from its competitors, namely the Honda Pilot and the GMC Acadia.
Interior design may not be Ford’s strongest point, but the Flex is equipped with the finest interior ever from Ford. It is fit and finely finished, involving top-shelf materials. Available are Ford’s innovative Sync MP3 player and phone interface system and a Vista Sunroof.
Flex’s three-row cabin is also quite spacious. A plus feature is that all the seats, including the front passenger, can be folded flat to provide more cargo space.
Performance-wise, the Ford is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that produces 262 horsepower and optional all wheel drive. It is also exceptionally quiet. Complication arrives as Flex’s fuel is no better than other crossovers, with EPA reporting the MPG of a front-drive model 17/24 while the all-drive model is rated 16/22.
All in all, the Flex is a great alternative to families desiring minivan features but not the minivan styling. Flex’s bold design and excellent performance adds to the good features of the crossover vehicle. A downside of the Flex is its fuel economy, which may keep the masses from embracing it.
The quality of the info is what keeps me on this site, thanks!
