If you are looking for a compact, solid sedan then you may want to look upon the 2009 Volvo S40. A relatively affordable alternative to German and Japanese sport sedans, the Volvo S40 offers a stylish and elegant design, cutting edge safety features and a solid feel when cruising.
With its smooth and sleek exterior design and simple yet modern interior, you are likely to find the S40 a pleasure to the eyes.
There are two trim levels for the S40: the front-wheel-drive 2.4i and the T5. The 2.4i trim is equipped with a 2.4-liter five-cylinder engine that produces 168 horsepower and comes with a five-speed manual transmission. The T5, on the other hand, has a turbocharged 2.5-liter five cylinder engine that creates 227 horsepower. The T5 comes with a five-speed automatic and is offered in front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Overall, the S40 performs well, but not sporty, thus the base trim should be sufficient for most drivers.
Volvo stated that 2.4i can reach a speed of 60 mph in 8.4 seconds, while a front-wheel drive T5 can do achieve the same speed in 6.7 seconds. Fuel economy for the 2.4i is EPA-estimated 20/28 MPG. The FWD T5’s fuel economy is 19/28 while the AWD model is 18/26.
Safety features included in all S40 models include ABS, traction and stability control, and front-seat side airbags and full-length head curtain airbags. Also standard in all models are the whiplash-reducing head restraints in all outboard positions. BLIS is an optional feature.
